Wishlist Priority 1: Shield!

I really hate my shield…. Thinking I am going for the dawnforged defender and/or the PVP shield. Hmmm which do I hate more Prot spec pvp, or my shield? I guess time will tell.

The Gladiator’s Shield is one of the best there is. Few have higher stamina and armor and it is fairly easy to get. I use mine for almost all cases, except when I need an extra threat boost for some threat happy mages in my guild. :)

@ Blackavar - Thanks, I am thinking to get the PVP one for general progression and get the Dawnforged for threat in heroics and the like. I am pretty sure that either would be an upgrade.

My biggest problem is in pvp getting HKs, on my resto shammy it’s easy and same with my shadow priest but on this toon PVP feels a bit like pulling teeth. Anyone have any suggestions?

Well for WSG flag running is your best bet. Wear your tanking set and just go get the flag, run with it, probably die, repeat. AB, EotS and AV are a little different. If you can get to the end of AV you’re the best there is for tanking, but usually what I try to do it be a royal pain in the behind to everyone.

For example no melee class will take you down easily in your tanking set. It will take several and for spellcasters just reflect as much as you can and interrupt them. Find a big warrior with a 2-hander and disarm him. Demo shout every melee you see. Run right past a group of the enemy and get them to follow you, or in the case of AV hang out by the graveyard spawn points so they waste time trying to kill you. Basically pvp as prot is more about being a distraction and an accessory to HKs, than actually getting HKs yourself.

Blackavar is right. I think that PvP with a Prot. spec Warrior can be a good laugh. I’ll admit that I’ve not raelly done it inside of random PvP groups - but in premade teams forged from the ranks of my guild - it has been a good laugh.

Flag running in WSG - definately good fun.
AB - just defend a flag - warn your team if you get incoming. Interupt people trying to cap the flag and generall stay alive for ages. Don’t be afraid to pop that Shield Wall against casters.
EotS - same as either WSG or AB.
AV - lead the charge all the way. You’ll most likely get the heals and be tanking all the PvE content in there.

I’d almost exclusively farm AV because of the large yield of honour and the reasonably garunteed short game time that it has become these days. You’ll very quickly earn honour from that - even with a loss. Then jump into some EotS for 20 marks as fast as you can. 15,000 and 20 tokens later - go buy that shield.

    GL :)

I did my time doing BG’s to get the shield, shoulders and belt. After several runs of Kara, Gruuls and Mags I’ve replaced the shoulders and belt with raid gear but still use the Gladiator shield. I think the shield Gruul drops is a little better but I’ve only seen it drop twice and the other tanks got em.

As for BG strategy, I agree with Blackavar and Limescale. Being the flag runner in WSG and EOTS is fun and I chug the sprint potions to be a better contributor to the game. Getting all 3 caps in WSG and the majority of caps in EOTS is fun. AB, i just stay at Stables and call out incomings. Unless it is a full zerg i can almost always survive long enough for help to arrive. AV has been more frustrating but tanking the bosses was a highlight in an otherwise miserable experience.

The downside of PVP is taking 30 seconds to kill an AFK player, lol. Embarassing.

Thanks guys! I will definately have to try some of that stuff in BGs tonight.

@ Blackavar “Basically pvp as prot is more about being a distraction” - that’s an excellent way of thinking about it and I guess I will mind dying a lot less if I think of it that way. I hate dying on my Shadowpriest because I always feel like it was avoidable.

Doing AV on my tank is the only way I enjoy AV at the moment(Apart from my newly dinged shaman). I just run first in everywhere and hope someone heals me, and pretty soon people start following when they see I’m taking all the heat.
AV being the pve race it is, a tank is a great asset.

@Dez “I will mind dying a lot less if I think of it that way” I actually get some sick pleasure out of standing in a graveyard and having 20 people rez, try to kill me, and end up having their graveyard flag capped while they’re wasting time trying to kill an obviously prot warrior who is no threat to them.

Season 4 will be out soon now too. so mercilious shield wall will be an easy grab with some honor.

I also made a couple arena teams. One was aimed to be a 2 tank team - cheers blackavar! we did a couple games….lost them all, but we annoyed the other teams with our 14k HP, armor, reflecting, and disarms. 10 games a week and build a few points and walk away with a nice shield…takes a bit…but doesn’t everything sometimes.

I also did the grind for the Dawnforge defender. You can’t beat the Hit and Dodge. I am really happy with mine. Plus you can buy more than one! enchant each +Stamina to one and +Block Value to the other. This gives you a nice swap for Threat on Trash and High Stamina for Hard Hitting Bosses.

Lastly, If you don’t have, get 2 slow One-handers….Devestate spam and Whirlwind and Execute..youll get you HK in PvP and works great for Soloing.
